Caribbean Stud Poker: Winning Three Ways
Caribbean stud poker, unlike the majority of poker games, is a game played against the dealer rather than where players play against each other.
In Caribbean stud poker, the game begins after every payer has anted a bet of the same amount as the table bet minimum. The ante is to be placed in the "ante" layout.
The dealer then distributes five hole or face down cards to every player. Whereas, the dealer deals oneself four hole or face down cards while one card is placed face up.
Each player must then check their card to see if they would fold or if they would play their hand.
If the player opts to play, the player has to call by placing an amount that 100 % more than the ante. Thus, if the ante is $5, the call amount is $10.
In Caribbean stud poker, you can win against the dealer on two terms. One, that the dealer possesses no Ace/King or better. Two, that the player's hand is higher in rank than the dealer's.
Where the dealer has no Ace/King or better, the player wins 1:1 on their ante only. The call bet is given back to the player.
Where the player's hand is higher in rank than the dealer's, the player gets a pay both on the ante and the call irrespective of whether the dealer has an Ace/King or better.
The payout for a call is dependent on the hand that the player possesses. The payout scale for winning poker hands in Caribbean stud poker is as follows:
1:1 for a pair. 2:1 for two pairs. 3:1 for Three of a Kind. 4:1 for Straight. 5:1 for Flush. 7:1 for Full House. 20:1 for Four of a Kind. 50:1 for Straight Flush. 100:1 for Royal Flush.
Besides a win on ante and call, the player may also win a bonus jackpot by making a side bet in Caribbean stud poker. The bet for bonus jackpot is $1. This bet is to be placed prior to the dealing of cards.
The payout for the bonus jackpot is also dependent on the player's hand. Basically, though, the player needs to have either a Flush, a Full House, a Four of a Kind, a Straight Flush, or a Royal Flush to be able to get the win for bonus jackpot.
In sum, you may win in three ways when you play Caribbean stud poker. You can win on your ante, on your call bet, and you may also win the bonus jackpot. To win any or all of these, you need to beat the dealer's hand with a highly winning hand. The bottom line is, beat the dealer, win your bets.
