A. D. Livingston's Book on Poker Strategy
"Poker Strategy" is a poker book written by A. D. Livingston. Actually, "Poker Strategy" is already a reprint of the poker book that this author wrote in 1971 titled "Poker Strategy and Winning Play." It was in 1991 when such book was reprinted with the title "Poker Strategy."
The pieces of advice given by A. D. Livingston in "Poker Strategy" are described as sound pieces of advice. The concepts that this author discusses in this poker book may have appeared in other poker books but it is definitely not a big deal. Some of the concepts that A. D. Livingston tackles is his belief that bluffing is not used merely for advertising. He also mentions the games of high-low split that are not required to have a qualifier for low. He also interestingly discusses a new type of poker known as Hold Me. He explains that Hold Me is a poker game played with double playing cards that are dealt down while there are a total of five faced-up community playing cards laid on the poker table. The strategy discussed by A. D. Livingston with regard to such game may not have that much impact on the readers. However, his ability to talk about the significance of kickers is one of the reasons why this poker book is very interesting to read.
"Poker Strategy" also features mathematics in its second section. A. D. Livingston has his own way of explaining explicitly event probabilities with the use of combinations. This part of "Poker Strategy" is helpful for poker players who conduct home games. Unfortunately, A. D. Livingston fails to explain it the way it is played in modern card rooms.
"Poker Strategy" also features a third section and in this section, A. D. Livingston successfully describes different kinds of poker games that can be played at home. Furthermore, he discusses basic strategies for playing such games.
Perhaps, there is nothing extraordinary about "Poker Strategy." As a matter of fact, this poker book contains some errors with regard to the strategic plays mentioned by A. D. Livingston. But then, it is probably because of the fact that this poker book is only a reprint and that when it was first published in 1971, such strategies used to be applicable and were not considered errors.
Poker players who are interested in getting some pointers on how to enhance their chances of winning in a poker game at home will find "Poker Strategy" a useful poker book. This poker book is also ideal for poker players who are interested in knowing more about unusual and various poker games.
Despite the fact that the original poker book written by A. D. Livingston was published a long time ago, its reprint still proves to be a success as it can still be applied by poker players today.
