Beyond the Pre Flop in Texas Holdem No Limit
A lot of your actions pre flop in No Limit, such as raising, will have a direct bearing on how you will be able to play on the flop itself. However, the fact is that in the end, it is the cards that appear that will have the greatest influence in how you will be able to play. For this reason, you need to look at your cards and the flop thoroughly.
For example, if you are holding J-10 and the flop gives you a 10, coupled with other low cards, you will have yourself a nice pair and also a decent kicker. What do you with do this kind of hand? Your No Limit strategy will depend on the kind of table that you are playing. If you are on a tight table, this is a hand worth making a bet with.
But if the No Limit table is very loose, you should check instead. The reason is that a lot of the players will be staying around for the river, regardless of how low the flop turned out.
If you flopped a four flush or straight draw, then you will have to consider how many players are in the No Limit pot. If there are a few players on the table, then you should bet hard to try and get the draw. On the other hand, if there are a lot of players in the pot, you should bet, but try to do it as cheaply as you can, so even if you miss, it will not hurt your stack as much.
If you are holding KQ and the flop gives you a QKJ, then again consider what kind of table you are in. If it is a loose table, then you should bet big, because the players will still be calling and betting. However, if it is tight, then you should try to conceal it as much as you can, and try to keep the players in the game and put money in the pot.
Finally, If you have A8 and the flop shows up a J52, do not fold yet. You should try to check first how your No Limit opponents react. If you sense that your opponents have a worse hand, then it might be worthwhile to stay in and bet.
The way that you play the flop will, as stated, depend on the hands that you hold. There are of course, a number of scenarios and possibilities that can and will emerge. The important thing is that you now have some knowledge of the basic No Limit strategies, for this will give you the inside track to the pot.
